squicked.

So I just got a message from LJ saying someone has friended me.

A quick perusal of her profile tells me she’s reading Xander/Spike slash, and possibly found a comment of mine on the topic of how sexually aware female characters get called sluts by american readers (I’m against that).

The thing is, she seems to be anti choice, and anti gay marriage– both of which are protected in her country. She is particularly upset that the church officiates same sex marriages.

And she reads schmoopy boybuttsecks. Happy boys fucking their brains out are just fine, but they can’t be married. I hope she thinks about that hypocrisy very carefully.

My dear, please understand this; I am queer. And I am a civil rights activist. I am pro choice, and one of the choices I support is the right of gay men and women to marry. In a church, if that church wishes to officiate same sex marriages.

Please, go back and read "All the times the bible says it’s a sin." You will find gayness proscribed twice, in company with many many other things that we modern people completely ignore. Things like wearing cotton/polyester shirts are a ticket to hell. Did you know that?

You are very young. Younger than my own daughter. I am not going to say more, here, and I will not ask you to out yourself, and if you want to talk to me via private message I can send you some information that you may  have not been given yet.

For the time being, I won’t friend you back. You won’t be missing out on much, I post almost everything public. But you are no friend to me and mine.

It’s always easier when the rights are already protected in her country.
Maybe somebody needs to send along some extra coathangers and explain how they got used in the Dark Ages around here, and may be so used again.

the whole thing about mixed fabrics is supposed to be that they were the dress of the priests. Priests were the ones who determined who was pure/impure, so if you were dressing in mixed fabrics, then you were setting yourself up as someone you weren’t.
Pork and Shellfish – if you were eating them in that bit of the middle east you’d be dead anyway. Well, not so much the pork. The explanation I was given was that it was to stop the Jewish people inadvertantly being cannibals, because child sacrifice was practiced in certain cults (which is what Abraham/Isaac is a reference to)
However, that aside, the Leviticus one can be read as “don’t be promiscuous” and the NT ones are about relationships-gone-wrong rather than being all m-m, m-f and adult-child….

I have run into several people on my flist who earnestly assure me that just because they think gays don’t deserve civil rights, I shouldn’t take it personally, as they think I’m really good writer. And then they’re shocked and hurt when I don’t find “Hey, you write good!” as a fair trade for being equal under the law. :P
I got the world’s smallest violin right here.

Uh, yeah. There was a lot of that here in CA last year. I got enough of it to last me the rest of my LIFE, OMIGOD.

      • nagasvoice says:

I anticipate more to come, too.
Maine made me want to lay about me mightily and smite bad people.
Oh, well, gee, there’s days I want to do that anyway, a lot.
God knows they’re trying to smite all the rest of us first.

No smiting for me. I just don’t have the energy anymore.
I do believe I’ve given up. My perception of my world is that it’s me and mine (a quite small group) against a tide of ignorant and self-important asswipes. Too many to even be counted.
          I’m so tired.

**hugs** I know that feeling too.
There’s a time when other folks need to take up the baton and start doing the job.
I daresay all those ancient druidical magick users who are hanging about waiting (and waitiung and waiting) for the One True Disciple to show up (finally) are just exhausted by the time the dang kid bops happily into view.
Funny how the old farts (men or women) are always so *cranky* in the stories, ya know.
