second post, same (more or less) as the first
So. We’ve got this great new law in California that allows for same-sex marriages, including that of the lovely George Takei. However, there are some bitter, ignorant people who are trying to get that law stricken with an anti-same sex marriage initiative on this November’s ballot. These people need to be hit with the cluebat very, very badly.
That’s where comes into the picture. This is a charity auction community started by and to raise money for organizations working against the initiative. Already, there are fanart, fanfic, original fic, original art, poetry, signed books, jewelry, a handmade Hogwarts scarf, and other goodies on the table. So check it out, and see if something tickles your fancy. Or consider offering something yourself. Or both. They’re flexible that way. Bidding starts on July 1st and ends on July 15th.
My auctions feature some of my woodcraft. Rated gen and NC-17. *cough*

I just want to tell you I would love to offer items for this, however bankruptcy law prevents me–no giving to charity until it’s settled.
Omigod, I just looked it up and you’re right!
But I am not sure that this is the same– it isn’t a charity, it’s political activism, and I really wonder if the courts can prevent you from working politically. We are not talking about tithing money– you might be able to offer your time, as in beta-ing or writing.
All the same, I sure don’t know!
Would you be willing to post the community link to your own flist, regardless? I never know if anyone is reading me…
Oh, yes, that’s a good idea.
And no, in bankruptcy, the court has a right to say I can’t pay back friends and family money I owe until my binding debts are paid or discharged. They can take away things I own to pay debtors– the law also says I can’t give anything away or sell it for less than market value, etc. I was thinking of donating jewelry if I could, but I don’t want to put a toe out of line. I’ve got 6 figures of debt and 3 figures in income; I need the court to have pity on me.
Yeah, that makes a lot of left-brained sense.
Cold, but practical…. (((hugs)))

There’s also the possibility that this groupw ill still be going, fighting legal challenges and needing support, after your court matters are settled.
I hope not, I hope both resolve soon!
Well, things might get settled for us in August, at I think the earliest. And the group will be working up to the election date, I expect. So I will be able to donate then.
