There is a huge and teeming world outside of lj/dw.
ETA; even though the thread titles are horrible and problematic, my friends, they are posted by real people. And if you want to know what a whole bunch of real people really think about their own sexuality– those threads are worth digging into. These men (and women) are mostly not our thinky, self-aware, fannish companions. They are sometimes inarticulate, sometimes illiterate, sometimes monosyllabic. There are trolls– the forums have a "free speech" policy to an extreme. But here are people who speaking honestly, about their wishes fantasies and (sometimes) experiences.
I think I should tag this post as a research resource.

A good chunk of them are using the forum as a hookup resource. I’m not sure if honesty helps on that, but it’s interesting. The quote “str8t guys” unquote who want to give blowjobs without getting involved with anything outside the dick do give some insights into gloryhol fondness, but the unsafe sex fantasies kind of bother me. Maybe they haven’t lost anybody to AIDS.
