I have joined the roll of the banned;

Teresa Nielsen Hayden (tnh) replied to a comment you left in a LiveJournal
post (http://tnh.livejournal.com/6434.html). The comment they replied to
was:

> I don’t think you sound cruel. In my opinion, you’ve said what needed to
> be said.

> I do not know either pnh  or tnh , and my only knowledge of their
> characters has been what I’ve witnessed in these past days. Not very
> prepossessing, in either case.

Their reply was:

Oh look, there goes another one. Same voice, same stupid arguments.
 Bye-bye, Dharma_slut.

Congratulations! I cannot even remember if I commented over there or not at this point (if I did it was only once). But I’d love to be banned from there.

Since I was never on her flist– since I’d never even heard of her or her flouncy hubby before they made themselves so very visible– I figured I’d be banned for my horribly hideous opinion.
And I’m sure that she takes comfort in assuming we are all sockpuppets of one especial meanie.
Because obviously, no independent observer would ever notice her attitude on their own.

I wonder if by the “same voice/same stupid arguments” she’s trying to imply: hive mind? you r a sockpuppet?

Congratulations; this whole thing is especially disconcerting because TNH was excommunicated by the Mormon church for speaking out against sexism in the church. You’d think she’d have some sympathy for people who are trying to speak out against racism.
You can read about it here: http://nielsenhayden.com/GodandI.html — it’s been on the web for YEARS, I remember reading the article at least eight to ten years ago when I first got on the web (and for the record? This wasn’t hard to find: Google “Teresa Nielsen Hayden” and “Mormon” and it’s one of the first things to come up. The article is titled “God and I”). The article was written back in 1980 and was collected in a book called ‘Making Book” published by NESFA (http://www.nesfa.org/reviews/Olson/MakingBook.html) which appears to still be available for sale.

Oh man, I didn’t know that. It must suck when you thought you had fought all of your battles– in the past tense– and then come up on people who are fighting in the present. And somehow you find yourself on the wrong side.
Laurels are really unreliable things to rest upon.

        I do wonder if I’ve been banned…
She can’t claim *I’m* just one of Willow’s puppets, at least! (Then again, minimal research would show that none of us are.) But OTOH, “if I cared to care” – at this point I don’t give a damn what Big Names in SF like me or don’t like me, qua their Big Name status, only if they seem like Good Folks or not. I don’t worship power, I respect *worth*, and that’s a dynamic, not a static thing. I guess this is why I have always had this reputation for being “antisocial”…?

Like reality is going to make a difference to her at this point? *Rolzz eyz*
I must have picked up my Laurel reference from your post!

            Could be~
Tho’ the whole “resting on your laurels” concept is pretty natural and has come up a lot in the progressive blogosphere’s internal debates between the Old Guard (“You kids nowdays, you haven’t got our fire! Where’s your reverence for your elders/betters?”) and the Young Turks (“So, great job with the world you left us, pops!”) – it could just be convergence, too. (“I’m not proud”…well, actually I am! but not about credit where who’s due is blurred…)
The thing that gets me is the cognitive dissonance between the whole “We’re so objective and rational“/”Of course people like us are going to behave irrationally and disproportionately when our friends/family are involved in flamewars of their own devising – but WE’RE the Objective, Rational ones who should be listened to” …um, no. Can’t have it both ways, sorry!
