Forum fun

So, my not-so-much-any-more home forum has no moderator. This is because, the owner says, she believes in free speech.

Of course, "free speech" for some people means ad-homs at will, and when an insulted person cannot request an post to be removed that is nothing but an insult– that’s just permission for said troll to pump those "free speech" muscles even more.

The owner has given us an ignore this poster function, which cosmetically removes the threads a disliked fellow member begins, but doesn’t prevent them from posting in other threads, and then you get to read once more, their crap anyway. The only recourse is shunning– so what does this community do?

One person posted a "happy birthday" thread to a troll. And people who really ought to know better have chimed in.
I don’t get it. he was a troll all day yesterday. He’s trolled today. Tomorrow, he will troll some more. He has insulted women as a group, women as individuals. He’s insulted blacks, First  Nations, LGBT, liberals, and a mother who recently miscarried.

I asked why she posted to the troll, and she said that she felt he’d been picked on by too many people. So much for "Group shunning."
