Calm Water, Fading Light

Posted on Apr 9, 2008 in Blogging, Fannish Things |

I’ve been spending far more time in Photoshop than in Word. Oh, woe! By way of vacation, my mind went wandering to the decks of Captain Sparrow’s beloved Ship… Cross-posted here and there, please forgive meh.

    “Calm Water, Fading Light”
    “Nacreous pearl light swam faintly about the hem of the lilac darkness; the edges of light and darkness were stitched upon the hills. Morning moved like a pearl-gray tide across the fields and up the hillflanks, flowing rapidly down into the soluble dark.” (‘Look Homeward, Angel’ – Thomas Wolfe)

    Found that Thomas Wolfe quote a couple of weeks ago while searching for another quote of his.
    Your picture brought it immediately to mind so I retraced my threads and found it to pass along.
    I hope you love it too, as I do your picture.

    RE: Photoshop vs. Word:
    You know, if a picture is worth 1000 words, you’ve only 996 to go.
    Or, 96 makes a drabble.
    For our Immortal Beloveds, The Black Pearl and her roving captain?

      96 words for you;
      Dreaming, he flew across the Atlantic. He could see the light on the waters, and his own dear ship abreasting the waves like the swan she was. Sunset gilded her black decks; he longed to set foot on them again, to lay down upon the quarterdeck, feel the warmth that the sun had left in her wooden body.
      Then — gone, and Jack Sparrow woke to that familiar sense of loss.
      Slowly, his surroundings came into focus; the cabin of the Black Pearl, his once more. That damned vision — Might it fade, given ten more year’s time?
