Anniversary memory
It was love at first sight for me and my S.O- even though that “first sight” was filtered through three panes of glass- I’d gone to meet a date at the airport, we were flying to San Francisco for a weekend. I was inside the lobby, and i saw my date step out of a beat-up, souped-up Beetle. The guy driving the car was- all I’d ever wanted. And he was looking at me, too.
I went to S.F. for the weekend, it was- barely tolerable. We came home, I dumped the guy who’d taken me.
About two months later, he called and invited me to meet him and some friends for dinner. Among the group he brought along was the guy who’d taken him to the airport, who was quiet during the dinner. But- we were at an outdoors restaurant, and the temperature drops about ten degrees at nightfall in L.A. and I got cold. “K” offered me his jacket- a glam-rock leather jacket, metallic silver. He let me wear it home, and I promised I’d bring it back to him, thereby giving us an excuse to exchange phone numbers.
About a month went by, before I got together with him, and I dropped off the jacket, smoked a jay, and left- he showed me around his house, and it was obvious that there was a woman living there. In fact, she had placed what looked like a pretty pattern of rocks, seashells, and other items, around his bedroom. The pretty pattern did not disguise it as a holding spell- which I scuffed open… A couple more weeks went by, and I heard, via my no-longer-date, that “K” had kicked his girlfriend out.
Several weeks after that, my birthday was coming up. I was going to be 21 years old. I was seeing three men at the time, and I called each one of them and they were all busy on that night. I remembered that guy, “K”, and thought he might be fun to celebrate a birthday with me, I called him and he was very willing. We went for seafood, and came back to his house. Sex was really good, but there was something that he said, or did, or a way he laughed at some point- that made me feel as if he’d been my friend since childhood. I remember, I said; “I know who you are- You’re Robin Hood!” (yes, I was a little stoned)
I never left. I just started moving my things out of my apartment into his house…
We exchanged rings one year later, and got a marriage certificate ten years after that.
Today, April 1st is- my fifty-first birthday, and our thirtieth anniversary.

Whoo! And you rock you know that.
Happy Anniversary, and Happy Birthday! (Born on April Fool’s — who’d of guessed?)
Many happy more.

That is the most wonderful story! And thirty years, how cool. I’m so glad you shared this. Thank you!

Congrats Stella! I love how haphazard our most important meetings can be. Give him a kiss for me.
